Feeling depression is considered a general experience in which
many people feel occasionally in their life. Depression feelings often are
temporal natural reaction of events that surprise us. But for some people,
depression is so intense that it hinders then from continuing their normal
life. This might cause acute behavioral changes that lead then to make
suicide, beside depression, some people may suffer periods or attacks of
mania.
Aim of the study :
The present study attempts to recognize differences between two
classes of depression patients (Uniplor depression patients and dipolar
depression patients in both (type of brain electrical activity, amount of
stress endurance, some personality traits) and the extent of variance in
these differences by sex variance (males - females) between two study
samples of the study.
Hypotheses of the Study:
١- There are differences between sample of unipolar depression
patients and sample of dipolar depression patients in type of brain
electrical activity on apparatus of electroencephalogram (EEG).
٢- There are differences between Unipolar depression patients and
dipolar depression patients in the amount of stress endurance on the scale
of stress life situations.
٢ Summary
٣- There are differences between unipolar depression patients and
dipolar depression patients in some personality traits on the scale of big
five factors in personality.
٤-There is Variance of mean scores of total study sample for
depression patients (unipolar - dipolar) of according to sex type (males -
females) on the scale of stress life situations.
٥- There is variance of mean scores of total study sample for
depression patients (unipolar - dipolar) by variance of sex type (males -
females) on dimensions of big five factors of personality (neuroticism,
extroversion, agreeable, cautiousness, opening for experience).
Sample of the study:
The present study sample included two classes of depression
patients distributed as follows:
١- The sample of unipolar depression patients divided into (١٢ females
and ٨ males).
٢- The sample of dipolar depression patients divided into (١٠ females and
٨ males) with age range between ٣١-٤٥ years.
Tools of the study:
The present study tools were represented in the following:
١- Electroencephalogram (EEG) to make a planning of patients brain.
٢- A scale of stress life situations prepared by (Zeanab Shokear ٢٠٠٣).
٣ Summary
٣- A scale of personality big five factors prepared by Costa, McCare
(١٩٩٢), translated and revised by Bader El Ansary (١٩٩٧).
Results of the study :
١- There are statistically significant differences between sample of
unipolar depression patients and sample of dipolar depression patients
in the amount of stress endurance, and the differences were significant
in the direction of unipolar depression patients.
٢- There is a variance between unipolar depression patients and dipolar
depression patients in the type of brain electrical activity as measured
by electroencephalogram (EEG) and the rate of deviation in the
diagram is higher for dipolar depression patients.
٣- There are statistically significant difference between sample of
unipolar depression patients and sample of dipolar depression patients
on the dimensions of big five factors for personality. The results were
as follows:
- There are statistically significant differences on behalf of unipolr
depression patients sample on dimension of (neuroticism and
cautiousness).
- There are statistically significant difference on behalf of dipolar
depression patients on the dimension of agreeability.
- There are no differences between two samples on dimensions of
(extroversion - opening for experience).
٤- There are statistically significant differences in means scores of total
study sample (unipolar - females - unipolar males - dipolar females -
٤ Summary
dipolar males) on the scale of stress life situations where the highest
means are for unipolar females sample, then dipolar females sample,
then unipolar males sample, and dipolar males sample).
٥- There are statistically significant differences in means scores of four
study samples (unipolar females, unipolar males, dipolar females, and
dipolar males) on the scale of big five factors in personality. The
differences were on behalf of (Unipolar males, dipolar males on the
dimension of extroversion, agreeability, and opening for experience).
