Abstract The anterior abdominal wall represents a unique many-layered musculotendinous unit, from the surface inwards, the successive layers are: Skin, superficial fascia, musclulo-apneurotic layers, transversalis fascia, properitoneal adipose layer and parietal peritoneum. Failure of abdominal wound to heal may be acute and develop shortly after surgery leading to wound dehiscence and burst abdomen, or chronic and develop later after surgery leading to incisional hernia. Reconstruction of massive abdominal wall defects has long been a difficult clinical problem. Means of mesh or fascial interposition |
