Abstract The present study describes thermoanalytical, spectroscopic and the potential antibacterial activity of four quinolones namely Norfloxacin, Ciprofloxacin, Levofloxacin and Moxiofloxacin complexed with two metals, Chromium (III) nitrate and Zirconium (IV) nitrate. The thesis consists of three main parts: Part 1: It includes general introduction about the known quinolone antibacterial agents, their discovery, classification and mechanism of action. Also, it contains a literature survey of quinolones metal complexes, including their methods of preparation, physical and chemical properties, biological activities especially antibacterial, antitumor, anti-inflammatory and antituberculosis. Moreover, the introductory part showed the different spectroscopic, spectrofluormetric properties applications of fluoroquinolones metal complexes in quantitative determination of these compounds. Part 2: It comprises the experimental part containing information about all the instruments, drugs, reagents, solutions, pharmaceutical formulations and procedures used in accomplishment of this work. In addition, it describes the methods used for investigation of the reaction conditions and methods used for studying the physicochemical properties , spectrofluorometric and antibacterial studies of the investigated complexes. Part 3: It includes processing the results obtained from the analysis of the studied compounds by the proposed methods, investigation of the biological activities, validation of the proposed analytical methods and application of these methods for the determination of the studied drugs in their pharmaceutical formulations. |
