Abstract The lack of the parental care at an early age has a negative impact on the every day behavior of institutionalized children. Loss of a close relative adds to even higher degree of trauma. The children without parental care represent specially vulnerable, sensitive and risky group that demands multidisciplinary research and intervention. The aim of this study was to assess the maladaptive cognitive schema and prevalence of depression among orphans in Dakahlia governorate orphanages. This study was carried out on orphans child from 10 orphanages were included in the study ( Elbaneen, fagr-Eleslam, Dar-Ebnaty, Elbanat , Tahseen-Elseha, Maemena, Elamal, Elsafa, elketab-Elmokadas and Elkalema- Elkebtia). All orphans in the previous mentioned setting of both sexes how met the inclusion criteria of age range from 6-18 years constituted subjects for this study. The study sample amounted to 200 orphans child. It can be concluded that the male orphans showed that the highest rate among children in Dakahlia orphanages. Nearly half of the sample complaining from maladaptive schema. Maladaptive schemas are higher among children with younger age group and girls had higher scores of maladaptive schema. Twenty percent of the sample suffer from depression and depressive symptoms are common among girls. Based on the results of the study it can be recommended that: well developed system of care for children in orphanages should be suggested and implemented in all orphanages, regular psychological assessment of the children should be carried out so that early detection of the abnormalities would be possible. |
