Abstract The nutritional -.alue of proteins dependJ upon the 8lllounts of essential amino acids and their existence in a suitable form. Poultry relatively need high amounts ot protein U1 their diets to meet their fast gro~h and egg production ~ Therefore, the dietary protein has to be chosen carefully especially tortts• biological value and priee. In developing couatries, as in Egypt, since the animal dietary protein is not sufficient and expensive, the plant dietary protein is usually used as the major source in daily diets for human and animals. Therefore, it is important to study our local plant proteins and to what extent could be used, by finding out some wa:ys to enhance their nutritional value. This could help us in solVing the shortage o’f animal protein in poultry diets • T.he ma~ority of plant proteins suffer either deficiencies of one or more of the essential amino acids or imbalance of their amino acids content • On the other hand, their poor protein digestibility due to the presence of some growth inhibiters, usually limits their utilization • It is eommon practice in Egypt that field beans Vicia tatia (V.F.) are used in cqmpound diets as a source of dietar,y protein in poultry feeding. |
