Abstract The genera of cucurbitaceous plants i. e. Citrullus spp. (watermelon), Cucumis spp. (cucumber and cantaloupe) and Cucurbita spp. (squash and pumpkin) are widely grown in Egypt. Cucurbits are considered group of the most important and widely distributed vegetable crops in Egypt in open fields and protected cultivation. Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) is the major vegetable summer crops in commercial fields in Egypt. Monosporascus cannonballus was isolated from samples of the diseased watermelon, cucumber and melon plants showing sudden wilt symptoms collected from different location in Egypt. Therefore the present investigation was conducted to study and focusing high lights on isolation and identification of the causal pathogen from different cucurbit areas as well as the biological control agents.Pathogenicity tests were an essential step to determine the most pathogenic isolates of the causal organism. Evaluation of the common and commercial cultivars was also of extreme importance. Studying of the host range of the pathogen on some cucurbitacepus plants and non-cucurbitaceous plants was very important. |
