Abstract
The necessity and safety of surgical reduction of enlarged turbinates became accepted, nowadays, by most of otolaryngologists. Various surgical procedures could be performed, of these, total inferior turbinectomy, partial inferior turbinectomy and middle turbinectomy were chosen to fulfill this study. This work was attempted to compare efficacy of these three surgical treatments for the relief of nasal obstruction. The material of this work was forty patients. There was seventeen patients subjected to total inferior turbinectomy, twelve for partial inferior turbinectomy and eleven for middle turbinectomy. A subjective measurement using patient questionnaire and an objective measurement using anterior active rhinomanometry were used. Rhinomanometry was used preoperatively and at least two months postoperatively. Although, total inferior turbinectomy gave highly significant results, still postoperative complications were risky specially the dry nose syndrome.
