Abstract

The present study was carried out on:
1- 300 mothers(100 urban,100 semiurban and 100 rural).they were chosen on systemic random basis from those comeng for vaccination of their children.
2- 60 nurses (30 urban and 30 rural). all of these nurses are working in the field of vaccinathion.
The interview of the mothers included questions about schedule of vaccination, number of doses, interval between doses for each of the routine vaccinations (including vaccination of the pregnant women with tetanus vaccine), vaccines which need booster doses, some precautions needed for poliomyelitis vaccine and source of mothers information about vaccination.
The interview of the nurses included all previous questions for the mothers beside special questions regarding storage of vaccines, recordings of data about vaccination and share in health education of the mothers.
The study revealed the following:
1- The mothers knowledge about routine vaccinations were defective in the following points:
Poliomyelitis vaccination:
Proper time of first dose, number of doses and administration of the vaccine to the child who have has previous poliomyelitis.
