Abstract This study was carried out on 43 nurses working in the intensive care units in University Hospital at Is.mailia and Al-Soliman Hospital (curative agency) At Port Said. The aim of this study was to assess nurses’ knowledge and practice related to the care of the mechanically ventilated patient. The data were collected using two tools; interview questionnaire sheet 11Which is consisted of 36 questions related to socio-demographic characteristics, mechanical ventilation and the care of the patient on the mechanical ventilator. 110bservational checklist.. were related to ventilator preparation before mechanical ventilation (MV) and the care of patient and ventilator during MV. The results of this study indicated that nurses working in the above mentioned areas had unsatisfactory level of knowledge and practice related to MV. Moreover, it was also found that no statistically significant relation were fawned between nurses’ knowledge, practice, and their socio-demographic characteristics were detected. Finally, statistically significant relation were fawned between nurses’ knowledge and types of hospital and no statically significant relation between nurses’ practice and types of hospital were detected. |
