Abstract Considerable controversy still exists In the early manage- ment of patients with spinal cord injuries. This is because of the uncertainty that removal of a compressive lesion w ill improve the neurological recovery.Recently, CT has been found to be more helpfull to resolve at least sorne ’ components of the therapeutic e dilemmas faced in spinal cord injuries. We have used CT in the past year for spinal cord injuries to evaluate the role of C T findings in the diagnosis and manag- ement of spinal cord injuries and to find out their prognostic values. Forty-one spinal cord injured patients, admitted to Zagazig University Hospital between January, 1987 and October 1987 were studied with CT scanning. A II cases were thoroughly clinically and radiologically exa- mined. Neurological evaluation included the determination of the level, type and extent of cord injury. The latter was determined according to the ”Yale Scale score” (YSS), both on admission and on the follow up 3 months after the accident. Then, the relative recovery of the initial deficit measured as Percentage Recovery Ratio was calculated . |
