Abstract The present study is to demonstrate a trial for immunization of sheep against Fasciola gigantica using 2 antigens; E/S antigen and purified cathepsin. E/S immunization revealed reduction in fluke burden by 45 %, anti-fecundity effect 60 % and reduction in egg viability by 36% , thus from these results E/S can achieve a protection rate of 47% (the mean of the 3 aforementioned effects). Cathepsin immunization revealed reduction in fluke burden by 62 %, anti-fecundity effect 73 % and reduction in egg viability by 45%, so cathepsin achieved a protection rate of 60 %, in addition it has enhanced humoral and cellular immune responses assessed by ELISA and Lymphocyte proliferation assay (LPA) and has given satisfactory diminishing of hepatopathological sequelae. |
