Abstract This study was planned to assess the clinicopathological changes , tissue changes in the bursa of Fabricius , spleen and thymus , as well as alterations in the functional capacity of the immune system following IBDV infection in broiler chicks , The study also included investigation of the effect of low inclusions of Nigella sativa , Thymus vulgaris and their mixture in the broilers ration (in comparison to levamisole hydrochloride provided in the drinking water) on the previously stated parametersResults of the experiment revealed that IBDV infection caused a significantly reduced body weight and bursa to body weight index with a significantly increased spleen and liver to body weight ratiosHematologically , IBDV caused significant macrocytic hypochromic anemia , leucopenia , lymphopenia , heterophilia , and monocytosisSerum biochemical changes associated with IBDV infection included a significant hypoproteinemia , hypoalbuminemia , decreased A : G ratio , serum potassium concentration , and hypergammaglobulinaemiaAlpha and beta globulins , calcium , inorganic phosphorus , sodium and glucose concentrations showed no significant changesHistopathological examination of the IBDV - infected birds lymphoid necrosis in the bursa of FabriciusSpleen and thymus were less severely affectedResults showed that IBDV significantly suppressed the serological response of the infected birds to SRBCs which was corrected by addition of low doses of Nigella sativa , Thymus vulgaris or their mixture to the broilers ration. |
