Abstract Out of 74 laminitic horses; 35 acute cases 7 were grade 1 and 28 were grade 2, in addition to 7 subacute cases (grade 2) and 32 chronic cases 18 exhibited early chronic and 14 showed advanced chronic symptoms. All horses assigned to clinical, laboratory and radiological examination. There were various changes in results of acute and subacute cases compared with data of control horses, these changes in were not obtained from chronic cases except radiological results that showed difference in reading compared with control cases. Acute and subacute cases were subjected to different treatment regimens. It was found that using of initial treatment regimen plus phlebotomy was the best of all, also the use of virginiamycin gave good results in prevention of laminitis. Chronic laminitic horses treated by anterior hoof wall resection, hoof trimming and correct heart bar shoeing. It was found that treatment of chronic laminitis required more time with high cost for treatment and farriery fees. |
