Abstract There are two methods of structural design of steel member in Egypt, the allowable stress design (ASD) & load and resistance factor design (LRFD). The ASD method has been around for many decades and is still in use today. It is based on the premise that the allowable stress must be greater than the actual stress. In 1989, the ministerial decree no.239 was issued for the first Egyptian code of practice for steel construction and bridges. In 1998, a revised edition of the same code was updated and issued under the ministerial decree no.185, 1998. In 2001, a new version of the code accounts for the additions and changes that was necessary. All designs of structural steel in building construction and bridges are to conform to this code. |
