Abstract SUMMARY The present investigation was carried out at Shandweel Agricultural Research Station, Agricultural Research Center, Egypt, during the three seasons of 1984/85, 1985/86 and 1986/87 The objectives of the present investigation were to study the genetic system controlling rnorpho—physioiogical traits, yield and its components and aphid tolerance in 8 durum wheat genotypes. In addition, effects of aphid feeding on different characters under field conditions of aphid infestation and the interrelationships among all the studied characters. The studied characters included, (1) morpho—physiolo— gical traits, i.e. days to heading, plant height and spike length, (2) yield and its components, i.e. number of spikes/ plant, number of spikeletslsjYike, 1000—kernel weight, harvest index, biological yield/plant and grain yield/plant, (3) aphid tolerance measured as the percentage of any character under aphid infestations to the same character under normal field condition. Furthermore, infestation scale and damage scale were recorded. Eight durum wheat, TkLtLcum tngLdurn var. dukux, were used in this study. They included two lines from Shandweel durum wheat breeding program, i.e. Gerardo vz466—Gs5 and It IT Bo —Gta , three Egyptians local germplasm, i.e. Local 28, |
