Abstract SUNMARY This experinent was conducted at the laboratories of the Agronomy Department, Colige of Agriculture, Assiut University during the period March 15th, 1980; till August 15fl 1981. he susceptibility of two wheat varieties: Giza 158 and Giza 56; to fumigation with phasphine (PH3) and carbon disuiphide CS2) were examined at 9.38 and 14%, and 9.91 and 14% moisture titta, respectively. Phosphine was applied at dosages of od 10 tablets/ton (each 3 gm wt.) for 4 days; while CS2 at the rates of 200, 250 and 300 cc/rn3 for 24 hours. after fumigation for and some grain and flour physical -— -— ———— iM chemiceJ. propertise; while other samples were stored for 5 ror 18 months, alter which they were examined for quality. The results could be summsrjzed as follows; Germination percentage and speed of germination index: Grains of both varieties could be fumigated at the lower moisture levels with all PH3 doses without any signifioant reduction in germination peroentae or speed of germination index, even when storage period was extended to 18 months. Furthermore, fumigation of the grains of both tested varieties with all CS2 doses was, in general, safe when storage was for 5 months; but when storage was extended to 18 months, significant reduction in both characters were observed. |
