المستخلص

Two field experiments were conducted at the Agricultural Exp. Farm of El-Azhar Univ. at Assiut, during 2004 and 2005 seasons to study the response of two cultivars of sunflower (Vidoc & Eruflower), to the application of different nitrogen rates (15, 30 and 45 kg /fed) and biofertilizers (Serialien, Rhizobacterin and uninoculation as check ).
The experiment was laid out in split-split plot design with three replications. Cultivars were allocated to the main plots while, the nitrogen fertilizer rates were distributed randomly in the sub plots. On the other hand biofertilizers treatments were distributed randomly in the sub-sub plots. Sowing was carried out on May 23rd and 28th in 2004 and 2005 season, respectively, on ridges 60 cm apart and in hills 25 cm apart, leaving one plant /hill at thinning time. Different nitrogen rates were added in two spilt doses, where the first one was added after thinning time and before irrigation, while, the second dose was added before the second irrigation.
* Measurements were recorded on the following characters:
A. Morphogical characters:
Samples of two plants were chosen at random from each plot at plant ages of 45, 60, 75 and 90 days, and the following characters were recorded:
- Plant height (cm), stem diameter (cm), number of internodes/ plant, internode length (cm), number of leaves /plant and leaf area /plant (dm2).
B. Dry matter production /plant:
Stem dry weight (g), leaves dry weight /plant (g) and head weight (g). after 75 days from sowing.
C. Yield and yield components:
Head weight (g) and diameter (cm), Shelling %., Seed weight/plant (g). , Number of seeds /head, Seed index and harvest index and Seed yield /fed (kg).
D. Oil content:
Oil percentage and oil yield /fed (kg).
All data obtained were subjected to normal statistical analysis and L. S. D.(0.05) was used to compare means.
A. Morphogical characters:
1- The data reveal that plants of Vidoc cultivar was superior in plant height, number of internodes/ plant and number of leaves/plant than Eruflower at all plant ages in both seasons while, for stem diameter and length of internode, the plants of Eruflower were more superior in their traits than Vidoc at all plant ages in both seasons. Leaf area /plant were not significantly affected by cultivars at all plant ages in both seasons. However, a slight increase in leaf area of Eruflower was recorded than Vidoc.
