ABSTRACT
The main objective of this research is to assess training needs for extension personnel in Assiut governorate in the area of information and communication technology (ICT ) through the following objectives:
(a) Identifying training needs in the area of ICT as percevied by extension personnel in Assiut governorate.
(b) Examining extension personnel evaluations of the degree of their use of ICT and its Skills.
(c ) Applying Borich model to assess training needs for extension personnel in Assiut governorate in the area of ICT and its skills.
(d) Examining extension personnel evaluations of the degree importance of ICT and its skills.
(e ) Examining extension personnel evaluations of their levels of knowledge on ICT and its skills.
(f) Examining the relationship between Training Needs for extension personnel in Assiut Governorate and their characteristics.
(g) knowing the advantags and disadvantages of ICT as perceived by extension personnel in Assiut governorate.
In order to a chieve the above objectives, a survey was carried out on 411 extension personnel in Assiut governorate, A questionnaire form was prepared and distributed among all extension personnel in the governorate. The researcher followed up the process of data collection and was able to obtain responses from 411 out of 456 personnel (90%) in the governorate.
The most important results can be summarized as follows:
1- Although the majorty of respondents evaluated ICT and its skills as very important or important, they evaluated their levels of knowledge of these skills as very low or low.
2- The majority of Extension personnel evaluated their levels of use of information technology and its skills as low or very low.
3- Both the preceived and the calculated training needs on ICT and its skills were high or very high for all skills as well as for most extension personnel .
4- While there was significant carrelation between perceived training needs for some ICT skills and qualification ,work for VERCON and English language skill, there was significant between calculated training needs for most skills and most characteristis of extension personnel.
5- Several advantages of ICT and problems of their use were perceived by extension personnel in Assiut Governorate.
6- Great efforts must be devoted to design necessary training programmes for extension personnel in Assiut governorate to improve their levels of knowledge and use of ICT and its skills in order to improve extension work in Assiut Governorate.
