Abstract

Chronic kidney diseases (CKD) are world wide public health problem which are capable of producing a wide variety of complications, it has become apparent that CKD is a state of chronic inflammation that is associated with significant increases in serum proinflammatory cytokine levels already at moderate levels of renal function impairment Atherosclerosis and vascular calcification often co-exist in CKD patients. Although atheresclerosis has been recently recognized as an active inflammatory process This study was done to evaluate the level of serum resistin in chronic kidney disease patients and to assess its relation to GFR, inflammation and atherosclerosis This study included 37 CKD patients 21 males and 16 females.Their ages ranged from 19-70 years. In addition, 12 apparently healthy age and gender matched subjects were involved in this study as control group (6 males and 6) females their ages ranged from 28-50 years. They were devided to 4 groups as follow Group I It consisted of 14 patients with ESRD (GFR less than 15ml/minute). They were 7males and 7 females with age ranged from 31 to 66 years old. Their mean age was 46 years Group II It consisted of 13 CKD patients (GFR from 16 to 59 br>ml/minute), they were 8 males and 5 females with age ranged from 19 to 70 years old. Their mean age was 49.6 years Group III It consisted of 10 CKD patients (GFR from 60 up to 89 br>ml/minute), they were 6 males and 4 females with age ranged from 33 to 58 years old. Their mean age was 45.7 years Group IV Control group consisted of 12 individuals (GFR more than 90 ml/minute),they were 6 males and 6 females with age ranged from 28 to 50 years old. Their mean age was 42.5 years
