Abstract This study is dealing with the response of sugar beet plant to some ecological stress factors. Accordingly, two pot experiments were conducted during the seasons extended from 1995 to 1997. The first experiment was carried mit to get some information about the effect of soil moisture stress, while the second one was carried out to figure out the response of the tested species to the higher concentration of specific heavy metals, i.e. Cd, Cu and Zn. The following conclusion may be summarized the main results: 1. Sugar beet plant productivity and growth was effected greatly by arty level of soil moisture. The reduction of plant growth and its productivity resulted from soil moisture stress may be associated with the reduction in photosynthetic pigments and hence the accumulation of dry matter depression in different plant organs. Also, the absorption, translocation, and accumulation on N, P and K were greatly reduced. 2. Cd seemed 10 have a depression effect on the growth of sugar beet , plant. These effects may be related to its effect of N, P and K status in different plant organs. 3. Both of Cu and Zn higher levels stimulated plant growth especially’ Zn, as the higher the used concentration the higher the plant growth was obtained. This lead use to the assumption that sugar beet plant require higher amounts of Zn and Cu. In addition, Zn was superior in this respect than Cu. |
