Abstract the aim of our study was to detect the percentage of obesity among preparatory school children, identify risk factors and some of the hazards of obesity among them. We found that the prevalence of obesity in preparatory school children was 3.9% and children at risk of becoming obese were 12.7%. obesity is more in urban than rural schools ( the prevalence was 7.2%, 0.6% respectively), more in private than governomental schools and more in high social than in middle and low social schools (10.7 %, 9.5%, 0.9% respectively). Obesity is markedly influenced by the education of parents. The higher the educational level of parents, the higher the prevalence of obesity among their children. |
