Abstract
The present study was carried out on 30 animals of equine species for experimental and clinical work. The experimental work was performed on 20 healthy donkeys, while the clinical one was performed on 10 clinical cases of different animals of equine species.
The experimental animals were divided into five groups each of four animals and received one of the studied anesthetic combinations. All animals were premedicated with xylazine hydrochloride intravenously. Five minutes later anesthesia was induced and maintained with continous infusion of xylazine/guaifenesin/ketamine (group I), xylazine/diazepam/ ketamine (group II), xylazine/ketamine (group III), xylazine/guaifenesin/ thiopental (group IV) and xylazine/ diazepam/ thiopental (group V). In all combinations anesthesia was maintained for 45 minutes.
Each anesthetic combination was evaluated for respiratory cardiovascular, hematological and biochemical findings. Moreover, quality of sedation, induction, analgesia, muscle relaxation and recovery from anesthesia were evaluated.
