Abstract Successful treatment of certain malocclusions with skeletal manifestations may be optionally treated during the period of rapid facial growth. Thus orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning of adolescent usually requires an evaluation of the physical growth, growth achieved, and prediction of potential for future growth, Individuals show great variations in the timing and duration of the adolescent growth spurt when related to chronologie age. Thus, methods which measure the biologic age of an individual may be better applied when attempting to assess the developmental status of a patient. The purpose of this study was to test the reability of using the cervical vertebrae for assessment of skeletal age during adolescence. Cervical vertebral age assessments were compared to those of hand-wrist assessments. Also skeletal age was studied in relation to chronological and dental ages to verify the correlation between them. Cross sectional study ofa sample of 100 Egyptian adolescents (50 boys and 50 girls), their ages ranged from 13-15 year for boys and 11-13 years for girls, clinical examination according to the patient’s chart specially designed for this work, was done for’each individual enrolled in this study. |
