Abstract

In patients with coronary disease and Left ventricular dysfunction, bypass grafting remains a surgical challenge. This study evaluated the safety and efficacy of coronary artery bypass grafting surgery. Demographic ,intraoperative and postoperative outcome data were collected prospectively for 60 patients underwent CABG surgery from 1st January 2006 to1st February 2008} in cardiothoracic unit at Naser Institute Hospital, Cairo. Multivariable analysis was used to identify the independent predictors of early mortality and morbidity. The mean age in this study was 54.8 years and male gender predominates. Patients in the study demonstrated a statistically insignificant difference in the presenting symptoms and history of cardiac comorbidity risk factors. Patients in the mortality group were more likely to have a higher score of congestive heart failure symptoms(NYHA III-IV) and prior myocardial infarction (MI) ,but lower Canadian class of angina (CCS I-II).The distribution of preoperative risk factors revealed low significant difference between the two groups regarding the presence of diabetes mellitus ,hypercholesterolemia ,hypertension and history of smoking .
