Abstract Melatonin is one of the several hormones secreted by the pineal gland. It plays an important role in the regulation of gonadal activity. The aim of the present work is to demonstrate the effects of melatonin on the morphological features and morphometric changes of cells involved in the process of spermatogenesis and on the interstitial cells of leydig-also on the epididymis and ventral prostate. In this work, a total number of 45 male rate aged from 18-20 days were used. The animals were divided into three groups, group (I) considered as a control group, the animals kept at 12:12 L.D cycle, the number of the animals in this group is 5 rats. Group (II) 20 rats was maintained under 16:8 L.D cycle (Long-photoperiod) one half of this group (10 rats) was considered subgroup (II1)receiving daily injections of melatonin (50 ug/ animal Slc), whereas the other half (10 rats) was injected with saline vehicle only daily. |
