Abstract

The present study followed the New Moemen modified Child Pugh classification which submitted the two subjective parameters of the previous Moemen classification; encephalopathy and ascites and as like as the previous Moemen classification, there were four new objective variables added to the original CTP classification; serum creatinine, serum sodium, total leukocytic count and arterial/alveolar oxygen tension ratio.
Conclusion: The present study proved, that the new Moemen classification have the same accuracy, but is purely objective as it avoided the disadvantages of containing subjective parameters with interobserver variability. Both Moemen (objective) and Moemen (subjective/objective) are more predictive than MELD score for postoperative mortality. The present study proved also that NMELD score has the highest sensitivity, specificity, accuracy and predictive value among the four studied scores in prediction of morbidity and mortality, it is as dynamic as MELD with no ceiling effect and it contains the same variables included in Moemen (objective) score. It is easier to be calculated than the MELD by using a very simplified computer program or even simple manual calculator. Application of Moemen scores and the NMELD scores on a wider scale is recommended.
