Abstract Constructed treatment wetlands are man-made wetlands developed specifically to treat wastewater. They can trap sediments and pollutants from the wastewater by the physical, chemical and biological processes; also, they are low-cost if they are compared with the conventional systems. In Egypt, Bahr El-Baqar drain is one of the polluted drains that discharge to Lake Manzala because of the large amount of wastewater disposal from cities and villages along its path. Treating and recycling the wastewater of Bahr El-Baqar drain is one of the main goals for the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation in Egypt, so it is essential to search for a low-cost wastewater treatment alternative to treat the large quantities of Bahr El-Baqar drain wastewater.
