Abstract Conjunctiva is the most common infected ocular tissue, which is constantly exposed to a wide array of microorganisms. The defense of the ocular sufaces presents a unique challenge in that the integrity must be maintained against microbial, inflammatory and physical assault. Acute conjunctivitis is a common childhood illness, and bacterial conjunctivitis is the most common type of infective conjunctivitis. Such conjunctivitis occurs when the pathogenic bacteria overwhelm conjunctival defenses resulting in inflammation. This study included 180 children (60 as healthy and 120 as study group), attending the out patient clinic of Ophthalmology Department El-Minia University hospital. |
