Abstract The aim of this work is to study the value of magnetic resonance imaging in detecting different brain changes occurred following radiation therapy of the brain tumors and their relations to therapeutic risk factors. This study was conducted on sixty patients with brain tumors presented to EL Minia oncology center. They were thirty-five males and twenty-five females. Their ages ranged from three years and half to sixty-three years. We conclude from this study: Future application of image fusion technique which means visualization of any morphological volume together with an additional functional data set, which may come from SPECT or PET, will help in proper treatment planning of brain tumor, provides more accurate and precise target volume, and more exact differentiation between the amount of the necrotic and proliferating parts of the tumors. Several advances in the field of radiotherapy for brain tumors such as three-dimensional conformal irradiation, radio surgery, fractionated stereotatic radiotherapy, and intensity-modulated radiotherapy when applied with vastly superior imaging capabilities as image fusion will improve targeting, providing extremely conformal X-ray dose distributions, reducing normal tissue complication and consequently decreasing the incidence of radiation injury. |
