Abstract
Aim of the work
To detect the level of serum 1p (a) concentration in diabetes mellitus and its relation to metabolic control and complications.
Conclusion
Serum lp (a) concentration which is an atherogenic particle is significantly elevated in both NIDDM and IDDM. Also, there is evidence that boor metabolic control is associated with higher levels of 1p (a) in both groups.
Recommendations
Every effort should be done to control diabetic patients as better control is associated with lower levels of 1p(a) which is a cardiovascular pathogen.
Also new pharmacologic agents reducing serum 1p (a) concentrations should be searched for.
