Abstract In this study we will try to shed light on the effect of the ageing process on the laryngeal structures both histopathologically and clinically. At the clinical level, we performed direct laryngioscopic examination of the cases, we concluded that: 1- Bowing of the vocal cords occur markedly in the aged where the vocal cords become in contact with the arytenoids band. 2- Coloration of the vocal cords in the form of either greyish or yellowish coloration occurs at variable extent in the larynx of the aged. 3- The mortality of the vocal cords becomes sluggish with the advancement of age. 4- Atrophy of the vocal cords occur more in the aged larynx. 5- The incidence of occurrence of a gap between the vocal cords is higher in the aged larynx. |
