Abstract

This work was designed to study the relationship between obesity, physical health and self-concept among secondary school female students in Minufiya Governorate.The studied sample included ”a 200” student of females (73 normal females & 127 obese females) their age ranged between (15-17) years old. All students arc from ”Menouf, Ashmoun and Shebin EL-Kom secondary school in Minufiya governorate. The sample of the students were subjected to the following studies: 1- Socio-economic studies including school grades, studying status, education level of parents, parents occupation, family income, number of the family, pocket money, studying, sleeping hours and hours watching of T.V. With regard to the school grade, it was found that (50.68 & 25.2%) of normal and obese females respectively were in grade ”1” which representing the largest percentage.whereas (17.81 & 33.07%) of normal and obese females in grade ”2” and (31.51 & 41.73%) normal and obese females respectively in grade 3.
It was found that transportation way (on foot) were (78.08 and 37.01%) respectively; whereas (8.22 and 7.87%) of normal and obese females respectively used special car. Also for puplic transportation it
was observed about (13.7 and 55.12%) of normal and obese females respectively used this way.
With respect to education level of father, the higher percentages of students were having fathers with higher educational level (36.99 and 46.48%) for normal and obese females sample respectively. However (21.92 and 35.43%) for normal and obese females had fathers with secondary school certificates. With regard to father employment, the higher percentages of the study sample had fathers in governmental jobs (employees) (46.58 and 46.46%) for normal and obese females respectively and the lowest percentages of the study sample had fathers who work as huckster were representing (19.1 and 7.8%) for normal and obese females sample respectively.
