Abstract

The present thesis comprises three chapters. The first one includes a literature survey on the electrochemistry of tin, tin-cobalt alloys, polythiophenes and structurally analogous systems. The anodic behaviour of metals in aqueous solutions generally IS discused. The anodic behaviour and the pitting corosion of tin in different aqueous solutions in presence of different anions especially in 8°42- and C032- was included. Moreover, the effect of halide
ions on the breakdown and pitting of the passive film fomed on tin anode surface was given. A general introduction for the electroodeposition of alloys followed by the different baths used for the deposition of tin-cobalt alloys was included. The introduction end with the litrature survey on the electrochemical behaviour of polythiophene and poly 3-methyl-thiophene in different aqueous electrolytes.
The second chapter is concerned with the expermental work: The electrodes (working electrode, counter electrode and reference electrode), the electrolytic cell, the solutions for electroodeposition, procedures and instruments used in different parts of this thesis. The electrochemical methods of synthesis for tin-cobalt alloys, polythio-phene and poly 3-methylthiophene described.
The third chapter contains the results and their discussion.
