Abstract

Fennel Foeniculum vulgare Miller, plant is considered as one of the most important medicinal plants. It belongs to Family Umbelliferae and commonly cultituated in middle Egypt Governorates.Fennel fruits contain 2-3.4 % volatile oil with the most important components being anethole and fenchone. The fruits are commonly used in medicinal folkore, bakery and sweets, while the volatile oil is involved in different pharmaceutical purposes and food industry.
The present investigation was conducted during two consecutive seasons 1997/98 and 1998/99 in the Experimental Farm and Laboratory of Ornamental plants Division, Horticulture Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Minia University such study aimed to investigate the response of fennel plants to seeding rate, as the main factor, and some nutrient treatments, as the sub-unit factor, in terms of vegetative growth, seed and oil yield and some chemical constituents. The examined seeding rates treatments included three treatments, low ,medium and high (4.6 and 8 kg/fed) and in the second season,Furrow seeding method was also added ,However, fertilization treatments included two rates of each of NPK either solobly or in combination with two rate of phosphorene. The experiment was arranged in a split-plot design.
