Abstract The present investigation was carried out at Sids Agric. Res. Station,Agric. Res. Center, Egypt, during 1995, 1996 and 1997 seasons. The objectives were to compare the efficiency of four methods of selection i.e. pedigree, mass bulk and single seed descent in two populations of mung bean. The first population (population I) was a cross between kawmy I×V.C. 1000 and the second one (population II) was a cross between V.C. 1000× M.53. The studied traits were : Days to 50% flowering, plant height (cm), no. of branches/ plant, no. of pods/ plant, no. of seeds/ plant, no. of seeds/ pod, pod length (cm), 100- seed weight (gm) and seed yield/ plant(gm). Analysis of variance, mean performance of families in each generation for each selection method, genotypic and phenotypic variances, heritability in broad sense, genotypic and phenotypic coefficient of variability, number of superior families were calculated Moreover, correlation coefficients among studied traits were calculated under each method of selection |
