Abstract The study of pressure waves in liquid filled pipelines is an important design parameter to avoid maximum pressures and flow separation. This problem is still receiving attention in the fuel injection system of diesel engines. The present study deals with an analytical model including the governing equations, the method of charac- teristics, and the finite-difference solution to simulate a piping system under unsteady flow conditions. The model .results(by computer prog¬ramming)are presented for several factors affect¬ing pressure wave propagation in a pipeline including reservoir head, pipe length, diameter, pipe wall thickness, Young’s modulus of elas¬ticity of pipe material friction factor, and properties of different liquids. |
