Abstract
The present investigation was carried out during 1990/1991 and 1991/1992 seasons in a private vineyard located at Bany Nazar district, Minia Governorate where the soil is clay and well drained and with a water table not less than two meters deep.
THe objective of this study was to realize the effect of concentration and date of spraying Paclobutrazol under two spur lengths on bud behaviour and some vegetative and fruiting characteristics of Red Roomy grapevines.
The vine were pruned leaving 72 buds per vine (60 buds from fruiting spurs plus 6 replacement spurs x 2 buds). Half of them was pruned leaving 15 fruiting spurs x 4 buds and the second half was pruned leaving 20 fruiting spurs x 2 buds, half of the number of the chosen vines was sprayed with
paclobutrazol at four concentrations i.e 0.0, 250, 500 and
1000 ppm. Each concentration was applied once at the following

six dates of spraying:
1. Three weeks before buds burst (2nd week of March).
2. One week before bud burst (4th week of March).
3. When the length of main shoots was 10 cm (at the second week of April).
