Abstract As a result of the agricultural cycly followed in Egypt, excess of forage crops are available throughout the winter season whereas in the summer , the livestock used to suffer a forage lack which affect animal performance and hence ,production. Alfalfa ,as a winter crop , is one of the most important forage crops which can be preserved either as hay or silege .the latter has priority since the nutritive value of silage is higher than that of hay .moreover, silage can be easily prepared any time of the year reardless of the climat . Preserving forage crops as silage ,succulent material , reduces the national income loss resulting from the fires specially n the warm countries due to storage of hay and other dried forage crops indoors and out. Till recently few studies on silage fermentation have been done in Egypt compared to those on hay .such studies in these countries are nesseserly required. |
