Abstract present study evaluates the important -role that can be played the process of energy storage . Energy storage in the form of drogen presents many advantages over the other forms of energy s-orage . This work studies the storage of hydrogen in a metal hydride A convective bed model is assumed and its mathematical Formulation is developed to simulate the dynamic phenomenon of hydrogen discharge. The partial differential equations that describe both mass and heat transfer phenomena encountered in the model are solved using an implicit finite difference technique . A computer code is developed to obtain the temperature distribution along the bed length the hydrogen — to — metal atom ratio and the total accumulated hydrogen at any time level Three metal hydrides are used in this study and their performance during the discharging process is established . These metal hydrides are : La Nis H6 t Fe Ti Hl .6 and M92 Ni H4 . Using the developed computer code , major factors affecting the rate of hydrogen release, from the used metal hydrides , are studied and found to be ordered according to their potential impact on hydrogen discharging rate as : inlet hydrogen temperature , bed pressure , inlet hydrogen mass flow rate , bed length and bed void fraction This parametric analysis can be utilized to get the optimum conditions for operation . |
