Abstract Complementary and alternative medicine is a group of diverse medical and health care systems, practices that are not presently considered to be part of conventional medicine. Some health care providers practice both alternative medicine and conventional medicine. The aim of the study was to identify knowledge, attitude and practices towards alternative medicine of health team and public in El-Minia district. A cross sectional community based and hospital based study obtained by 636 household contact above 18 years old and 264 of health team persons randomly chosen in El-Minia district from September 2007 to December 2007. Level of knowledge in the health team was (97.8%) and (94.8%) of the public group. Television represents main source of knowledge; (68%) of health team knowledge and (75.1%) of the public knowledge. Journals represent (16%) of health team knowledge and (4.4%) of the public knowledge. Knowledge from physicians was significantly lower in health team than in public group (16% and 15.2% respectively). Knowledge from study curriculum represent (0%) of the health team. Positive attitude towards alternative medicine represented (87.4%) of the health team and (88.3%) of the public |
