Abstract

Aim of the work
To evaluate open “tension-free hernioplasty” in 30 patients with short term follow up.
Conclusion
The advantages of tension-free hernioplasty (lichtension technique) are several as short time of operation, short period of hospital stay, early return to normal activities, minmal side effects and complications if it is compared with other classic repairs. Our study represents 30 patients suffering from inguinal hernia and who were operated by this technique. The most important complications in this study include: 4 cases of haematoma (13.3%), 3 cases of wound infection (10%), 2 cases of genital edema (6.6%), 3 cases of nerve injury manifested by numbness and parathesia in the area below and medial to the line of the wound (60%), 3 cases of urinary retention relieved by hot formites with no need for catheterization (10%), 2 cases of post operative chest infection (6.6%). As regard of recurrence no case was reported.
Our data were compared with the operative results of some published series, and also, with the operative results un classic Bassini repair from which it was concluded that tension-free hernioplasty technique in open repair of inguinal hernia.
