Abstract This thesis deals with the lithostratigraphy, biostrastigraphy, micropaleontology, paleocology and structure of the Cretaceous sequence exposed in the area of Gabal El Halal, northeast Sinai. Lithostratigraphically, the studied succession is subdivided into five formations as follow (Malha, Halal, Wata, Matulla, and Sudr). They are clastic sediments in lower part especially in Malha and Halal formations with low amount of carbonate facies intercalation but the Wata, Matulla, and Sudr are characterized with carbonate facies with low amount of clastic sediments. The paleontological part of this work mainly involves the identification and the taxonomic discussion of 153 foraminifera species of which 58 are planktonic and 95 benthonic species and 56 ostracod species are identified and listed according to their systematic position, which very important in Identification on the Biostratigaphic zones which can be subdivided into 13 zones for planktonic foraminifera with two barren Interzones, 7 zones for benthonic foraminifera with two barren interzones and 10 zones for ostracod species with one barren interzone. Moreover, from studying the fossil contents and the lithologic characters of the rocks of the study area can be determined the environment and deeps which lived in it. Also could be studied the structural position for the study area which are a part from the Syrian arc System and represented as a major fold dissected by a large numbers of normal faults. |
