Abstract
Aim of the work
To evaluate T-Lymphocytes and their subsets in malnourished children using flow cytometer.
Conclusion
The work has shown that there is an altered cell mediated immunity in marasmic group manifested by decreased % of lymphocytes, decreased % of CD4+, increased CD8+ and low CD4+/ CD8+ ratio.
Thus, protion energy malnutrition in such cases can be considered a cause of acquired immuno-deficiency. Luckily, this immuno-deficiency responds rapidly to the institution of an adequate diet with concomitant restoration of normal immunological function.
