Abstract
The present study is concerned with the effect of ND: YAG Laser hyperthermia on some skin disorders as a new modality aiming at decreasing the amount of scattered extra heat to the normal surrounding tissues and thus achieving the best treatment results with best cosmetic appearance.
This study was performed on 117 patients selected from the outpatient attendants of dermatology clinic during the period from July 1995 to July 1999.
In conclusion, ND:YAG Laser hyperthermia proved to be effective in treatment of benign (98%) and malignant skin tumours (94.9%). It could be recommended in treating a variety of benign skin tumours, recalcitrant warts and especially in cases of BCC. The most important advantage of ND:YAG laser hyperthermia is the extreme localization of heat directly to the lesion that led to the excellent cosmetic result in treatment of these tumours. Many treatment modalities showed excellent cure rates but most of these modalities did not show excellent cosmetic result in comparison to ND:YAG laser hyperthermia. ND:YAG laser hyperthermia is an easy, bloodless, non-invasive technique that was performed in outpatient clinic.
Patients tolerated the procedure easily and needed no local anaesthesia.
We recommended the use of ND:YAG laser hyperthermia in treatment of BCC especially in old age as some patients may be at risk of surgical intervention. In warts, we recommended to use it in all types of warts especially planter as it causes no pain , verruca plana as the large number of lesions may limit the use of many other modalities and recurrent warts.
