Abstract This work was carried out to mvestigate the structure of the camel’s lung and its accommodation with the surroundmg hard environment of the desert This mvesligation was done on 23 lungs of adult one-humped male camels (Camelus dromedarius of apparently healthy ones with 7 — 11 years old. Each sample was prepared and examined by both light and electron microscopy ( TEM and SEM). the obtained results revealed the following: -The morphological features or lobation of the camel lung does not give the true picture of the internal division. -The bronchial tree: Bronchi: • The bronchial mucosa is thrown into longitudinal folds. The lamina epithelialis is pseudostratified columnar ciliated with goblet cells. Goblet cells decrease gradually towards the bronchioles to end in the beginning of large bronchioles. Few intraepithelial shallow pits are found and they increased in number toward the tertiary bronchi. The epithelium rests on an interrupted basement membrane. Lymphocytes are seen within these interruptions. • The lamina propria is relatively thick with abundant amount of elastic fibers, collagen fibers and abundant blood . |
