The obviously increased agricultural use of pesticides are usually come in contact with serious problems of pollution and health hazards. The most famous potential hazardous effects of such pollutants; are fetotoxicity and teratogenicity, male reproductive toxicity , genotoxicity, residual effects and biochemical changes.
The present study was carried out to elucidate the effects of profenofos on female and male reproduction, its genotoxic effect on testicles of treated rats, determination the profenofos residues in rat tissues, studying its effect on nucleic acid and various biochemical parameters besides histopathological examination on different organs
Teratogenic effect of profenofos:
For assessment of female reproductive toxicity due to the tested insecticide, fifty mature pregnant female albino rats, with twenty five mature male albino rats (used in mating) were used where, after fixing the zero – day of pregnancy, the pregnant females were divided into five equal groups each of ten. The first and second groups administered 1/20 and 1/10 LD50 of profenofos from 6 -15 day of gestation while third and forth groups mated by males were orally administered with 1/20, 1/10 LD50 of profenofos twice weakly for 65 days while the fifth group received only distilled water and considered as a control group
