Abstract This study was carried out at the Poultry Research Farm belonging Poultry Division, Department of Animal Production, Faculty of Agriculture, Kafr El-Sheikh , Tanta University during the period from December (1986) to May (1987). The objectives of the study were: 1. Semen evaluation for two breeds of ducks(Pekin and Muscovy) under farm conditions using massage technique for semen collection, 2. Performing crosses between the two breeds and comparing the four genetic groups (P, M, PM and MP ) with respect to development and productivity. Ten males and twenty females were used as parents to produce each one of the four genetic groups. The number of tested ducklings in the progeny generation were 123, 70, 59 and 129 for P, M, PM and MP genetic groups respectively. The studied characters included semen characteristics (volume, motility, dead spermatozoa, abnormalities and concentration), fertility and hatchability percent, production traits (body weight, growth rate, feed efficiency, viability, slaughter traits, chemical analysis of carcass and development of some internal organs and glands). |
