Abstract

There has been an increased rate of cesarean deliveries over the last 25 years in most of the developed countries. It seems also that Egypt is following suit, the overall cesarean delivery rate increased progressively from 4.5 % in 1965 to almost 25 % in 1988.Currently in the UK, slightly more than one in seven women experiences complication during labor that provide an indication for surgical delivery.
Since 1988 the frequency of cesarean section appears to have plateaued, a 22.7% cesarean section rate was seen in 1990 and a 23.5% rate in 1991 among slightly over 4 million live birth. In the United States the rate has been paralleled in many other countries throughout the world, although absolute rate differ greatly. Most of this increase took place in the 1970s and early 1980s and occurred throughout the western world, between 1989 and 1996 the annual rate of cesarean delivery decreased in the United States.
