المستخلص The cephalograms of 96 Nubians were studied in an attempt to determine if the craniofacial skeletons of open bite subjects were different from individuals possessing good occlusion. All of the subjects were over 14 years of age, but no differenti1ation was made between the two sexes. The Egyptian Nubians, a documented social and geographic population isolate of southern Egypt, are very similar from the viewpoint of craniofacial variation to American standards according to the literature cited. All individuals were free from orthodontic treatment, The analysis included 28 variables, considered to be essential to the study; 13 linear and 15 angular measurements constitute the investigation. The variables studied indicated highly significant differences between the mandible of subjects with anterior open bite and those with good occlusion. Angular measurements such as gonial angle, Sella-Nasion-mandibular plane angle, palatal plane-mandibular plane angle, mandibular plane-Frankfurt horizontal angle were found to be significantly larger in individuals with open bite. Lower face height was greater in the anterior open bite group. |
