Abstract The present work was performed to study the effect of Astragalus membranaceus and Echinacea purpurea on haematology, biochemistry and immunity of healthy albino rats. The study included two experiments. The first one comprised 36 rats subdivided into four groups. Each group was consisted of nine rats. The first group received daily oral administration with 0.25g/kg/day of Astragalus membranaceus for two and four weeks, the 2nd group received daily oral administration of O.5g/kg/day of Astragalus membranaceus for two and four weeks, while the 3rd group received daily oral administration with 1.0glkg/day of Astragalus membranaceus for two and four weeks, the 4th group kept as control. The second experiment consisted of 36 rats subdivided into four groups. Each group was consisted of nine rats. The first group received daily oral administration 0.25g/kg/day of Echinacea purpurea for two and four weeks, the 2nd group received daily oral administration with O.5g1kg/day of Echinacea purpurea for two and four weeks, while 3rd group received daily oral administration with 1.0g/kg/day of Echinacea purpurea for two and four weeks, the 4th group kept as control Results of the first experiment revealed that the daily treatment of rats with Astragalus membranaceus doesn’t give any clinical signs and mortalities rate Regarding the blood picture, all Astragalus membranaceus concentration 0.25g, 0.5g and 1.0g had no significant effect in all studied parameters (total and differential leucocytic count) along the experimental periods. |
